Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Your therapist will work with you to determine the appropriate number of sessions based on your goals and progress. Some clients need few sessions, while other may need ongoing therapy for an extended period of time. Your progress and needs will be regularly reviewed and your treatment plan may be adjusted as needed, which can also affect the number of sessions required.

  • Yes, therapy is confidential. Your therapist will keep your information private, except in certain circumstances when they are required by law to report information, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others. Your therapist will discuss confidentiality with you at the beginning of your sessions to ensure you have a clear understanding of the limits and exceptions to confidentiality.

  • The initial appointment is about getting to know you, your child, or your family. You will be asked questions about your symptoms, the length and duration of your concern, and the reason for the appointment. To better understand you, the assessment may also include questions about the past and look into your family, relational, medical, social, and occupational histories. Sometimes it takes more than one visit to get all of this information. Once a thorough history is taken, a treatment plan will be discussed with you. This is also where you get to decide on your goals, or what you wish to gain from counseling.

  • Therapists are not able to prescribe medications. However, we can support you in evaluating if medication management may be beneficial for you. We can assist you in getting connected with a medical provider. With your authorization, we will collaborate as needed with your medical professionals in order to ensure you receive comprehensive and informed treatment.
